The All Progressives Congress (APC), in Diaspora, has urged the Federal Government to kick start the process of implementing agreements with striking university lecturers.
Ayoola Lawal, the Chairman of the Scandinavia chapter of the Diaspora APC, urged the Federal Government to start implementing the Memorandum of Action (MOA) signed with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in 2017 without further delay.
Ayoola Lawal in a statement issued to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Thursday, also appealed to ASUU to suspend the strike.
“Our appeal is for ASUU to reconsider suspending the strike and go back to the negotiation table with the representatives of the Federal Government.
“Apart from the current development, the real sustainable move is for the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the education sector in a bid to galvanize political will and formidable investment in the sector.
“Our education sector is rapidly falling far behind in terms of competitive quality in the league of nations.
“Lack of proper investment and strategic management and improvement of our education sector is unhealthy for the future of the students and as well as the nation,” he said.
