This is to inform all prospective corps members of IMO state university that there NYSC batch ‘B’ mobilization will re-commerce it’s online registration on *Sunday 23 June 2019*.
Nb: this information is for prospective corp members who have been cleared for service will be mobilized for it’s one year service.

No fewer than four million, seventy-one thousand five hundred and eighty-one (4,071,581) Nigerian youths have been mobilised for participation in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme as of 2018, forty-five years after the programme kicked off.

She stressed that available data showed that the scheme, from inception on July 2, 1973, when the pioneer participants were called up to commence service, initially mobilised a total of 2,364 graduates from the then six existing universities in the country, which started the programme.
Adeyemi recalled that graduates from the University of Ibadan (UI); University of Nigeria (UNN); Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU); Ahmadu Bello University (ABU); University of Lagos (UNILAG) and the University of Benin (UNIBEN) jointly produced the pioneer corps members for the year.
According to Adeyemi, the figure was exclusive of thousands of other graduates exempted from mobilization for one reason or the other.
The scheme that now mobilises over 300,000 participants yearly has put in over four decades of existence, extensively impacting positively on every aspect of Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
Available data showed further that from the two million mobilised as of 2014, the number of institutions producing graduates for participation in the national service in Nigeria and overseas has continued to grow as the scheme continues to record a jump in the last five years.
However, Forty-six years down the line the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has been meteoric in growth, size, operation and indeed accomplishments pursuant to its mandate.
In Nigeria, approved institutions that are producing graduates for participation in the scheme recently reached 170 marks in the university cadre. These include 43 federal, 48 states and 79 private universities.
At the Polytechnic education sector, there are 125 comprising of 28 federal, 43 states, and 55 private polytechnics spread across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Apart from the scores of graduates of Nigerian origin from overseas, there are also other innovation enterprise institutions that produce qualified graduates for participation in the scheme.
However, there are indications that the figure might further increase should the Federal Government give approval to the agitation for the enlistment of graduates of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in the compulsory national service.
Recently, chairman of the governing council of NOUN, Professor Peter Okebukola, was quoted as saying that distance learning institution was strategising to double its students’ enrollment from the current 500,000 across all departments by 2024 to one million.
According to him, soon graduates of the university would soon be participating in the mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme and attend the Law School as applicable.
He stated that President Muhammadu Buhari’s assent to the 2018 NOUN Amendment Bill, would provide greater legitimacy to the university as a full-time Open Distance Learning institution.
