TEARS Flows In Nigerian Air Force As Malfunctioning Helicopter’s Blade Behead Pilot In Borno
The Nigerian Air Force have been thrown into mourning after a vibrant Air force officer lost his life to a malfunctioning helicopter’s. The tragic incident which just happened to one of Nigeria most formidable air force officer identified as Umar. According to Within Nigeria, a group of air force officers immensely involved in the fight against insurgency and terrorism experienced a major setback today, 07 April 2019. After the rotor of the helicopter killed an ACM.
An airman, who was around when the horrible incident occurred during an interview with the cable highlighted that, it had all happened at Bama in Borno state on Saturday evening when they were pepping to move out.
The deceased, who was also a co-pilot, had gone to pick his bags and on his back, he mistakenly passed through the side of the rotor which was functioning at the time.
“Immediately his head was chopped off,” the source said.“The aircraft has been recovered and taken back to the air base. No damage was found the on tail rotor,” the source said.
The source said family members of the deceased have been informed while the burial arrangement was on as of the time this report was filed.
It would be recalled that the Nigerian Air Force revealed that five of its men died in the helicopter crash that occurred in Damasak, northern Borno. The accident happened while the helicopter was being used in combat to provide air support to troops of 145 Battalion, against the ragtag Boko Haram fighters.

Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, spokesman of NAF, said that the pilot of the Russian-made Mi-35M helicopter, Flt. Lt Pereowei Jacob and co-pilot Kaltho Paul Kilyofas died in the crash, along with three other men. The other victims of the crash were Sergeant Auwal Ibrahim, a Flight Technician, two gunners Lance Corporal Adamu Nura and Aircraftman Meshack Ishmael.
Daramola said: “These gallant fallen heroes made the supreme sacrifice in the service of our Fatherland, for which the NAF, and indeed the entire Nation, owes them an unending debt of gratitude. “The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, on behalf all officers, airmen, airwomen and civilian staff of the NAF, commiserates with the families of the five fallen heroes and prays that the Almighty grants their souls peaceful repose.
“The CAS was in Maiduguri today, 3 January 2019, to convey the condolences of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Muhammed Buhari, to personnel of the Air Task Force Operation LAFIYA DOLE over the unfortunate loss.
“While in Maiduguri, the CAS also received a condolence visit from the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai. “The NAF appreciates the overwhelming support shown by the general public to the Service over the sad incident. We continue to solicit your understanding and support as we daily strive to ensure the security of Nigeria and Nigerians”.
