Man United fan commits suicide after Arsenal loss

The Red Devils’ 2-0 loss to top four rivals Arsenal proved too much for one Kenyan fan who decided to take his own life after losing Ksh 60,000 ($600) in a single bet.

The man, identified as Ogolla, was a well-known staunch Manchester United supporter who loved his club so much that he was willing to put his money where his mouth; Ksh 60,000 to be exact.

Little did he know that he was in for a rude awakening as the Gunners eventually ran out 2-0 winners at the Emirates stadium with the result ultimately sealing his fate as he committed suicide at exactly 9 pm on Saturday.

Early in the morning, Ogolla had said the odds for Manchester United were 3 against 2 for Arsenal, buoyed by the extraordinary exploits that the Red Devils had done after having overturned a 2-0 deficit against PSG in the Champions League during mid-week.

The United supporter was utterly convinced that there was no way Arsenal could beat Manchester United that he scooped Ksh20,000 ($200) from his account and placed a bet and lay in wait for his Ksh 60,000 ($600) payout.

However, as fate would have it, it wasn’t to be the Red Devils night as in just a few minutes after the game had started, Arsenal scored 1 goal. Undeterred, Ogolla, with no time to waste, deposited another Ksh 20,000 in the bank and placed GG for the match.

In the 80th minute, Arsenal were 2-0 up but Ogolla didn’t lose hope and again proceeded to deposit Ksh20,000 into his player account and place over 2.5 goals bet—he was sure Manchester United could turn the tide like they have done in recent times.

But it wasn’t to be as the game ended 2-0 and Ogolla was so heartbroken as he had lost Ksh60,000 ($600). He cried uncontrollably and eventually went to a nearby bush and hung himself.
